July Newsletter 2011
Mother Nature struck again and we were unable to have our second show due to the grounds being too
wet to be worked up. Due to this happening twice in a row, the executive have looked into having
another place to have our shows in case it should occur a third time. Our backup location is at Willow
Creek Stables, 564581 Karn Road, Beachville, On. N0J 1A0. If the weather is questionable, please
call one of the executive to see whether the show will be held and where.
Our July 3rd show was double judged and a long day; finishing at 7:30 pm. In celebration of Canada
Day, we had a cake decorated like the Canadian flag and exhibitors were encouraged to wear red and
white. There was lots of fun and prizes for the best costumes. First place winner was Ange Taras,
second place was Amber McLeod and third place was Marie Potter. The youth had a raffle on a bucket
filled with leg wraps, a halter, brushes, sweat scraper and a chocolate bar which was won by Elsie
Bennett.
Our July 17th show was another great day, even though it was very hot. We finished shortly after 4:30
pm, thanks to our announcer; Al Atkinson, our ring stewart; Bill Rutherford and our two lovely judges;
Kelly Lehman and Brenda Thompson. The youth had a raffle on a bucket of horse stuff, including a
breast collar. The first winner was Brandon LaRose, who donated it back to be raffled off again. The
second winner was Paula Dow. Andrea Price, a games rider came off her horse in the senior barrels
class. She was taken to the Brantford Hospital, where it was found that she had broken her arm in two
places and required surgery to have pins and screws put in. Hope to see everyone at our next show on
Saturday, August 6th.
When your class is first called you should be making your way to the hitching ring, so that you will be
there and ready to go in and no one is kept waiting. If you need more time, send someone to the entry
booth to let us know. If you are leaving or your horse comes up sore, please let the entry booth know
that you are scratching. You will not get your entry fee back. Have your number on either your back
or your show pad, otherwise you will be disqualified. Please keep your children off the fence rail
when a class is in progress, it is upsetting to some horses when something or someone is hanging off
the fence. Please do not ride or walk your horse up around the entry booth or behind it to get to the
hitching ring, there are electrical cords running from the booth to the house on the ground. You need a
different number for you and each horse that you are riding, Also do not decide to change your horse’s
name after the first show, stick with either their registered name or their barn name.
This year we will be asking all members to sign a waiver and release of liability in accordance with a
request from the club’s insurance provider. We are also requesting that you have liability insurance on
your horse. If you don’t have insurance, you can obtain a OEF membership which also provides
insurance on your horse for $60.00. There will be forms available at the booth or you can download
one from their website www.horse.on.ca
YOUTH
The new Youth Director for 2011 is Sarah Dow. The suggested fun raisers for this year are another
Spaghetti Supper and the fun class. The Spaghetti Dinner was on Thursday, July 14th at the
Brownsville Community Centre, from 6 – 7 pm. They made over $500.00, this money will be used to
pay for the stalls at the youth team tournament.
The youth are still collecting pop cans as a fundraiser. If you can help them out by saving your pop
cans and letting John McHardy (519-537-7179) know you have them, so pick up can be arranged. I
am sure they will appreciate it.
FUNDRAISERS – There are still T-shirts ($10.00), and pins ($3.00) available for sale. Please contact
any of the directors if you would like to purchase one for yourself or if you know of anyone interested
in purchasing one. We will be having a raffle on a three horse plaque, a horseshoe clock and original
decorative art. Tickets will be one for $2.00 and three for $5.00.
SPONSORSHIPS & DONATIONS – We are looking for sponsors to help keep our club going for the
2011 season. If you know of any business or other person who may be interested in sponsoring the
Oxford Trail Riders, please see one of the executive for a sponsor form. We need a sponsorship for 39
classes ($60) and for 6 High Point Awards ($120). We have 24 classes sponsors and 5 high point
sponsors at this time. For those of you who would like to either sponsor a class, 1/2 class or make a
