Welcome!

The Oxford Trail Riders is a non-profit riding club that has been in existence for 54 years now. We are a family based club that is run by volunteers. We have riders from about the age of 4 yrs. to seniors. We have games classes and pleasure classes in both English and Western. There is a class for almost everyone. We are holding six shows this year and at the end of each year we have a trail ride and barbecue which is a great way to end a wonderful year. For more information on the club or shows please go the Contact Us page.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE – MAY – JUNE 2009

WE’VE JUST BEGUN – GIDDYUP-GO!...

….we’ve had our first show of the season and it was a bright sunny day to start off the show year!   It was a good turnout and our judge, Ms Louise Harris did a great job ensuring that everyone had a first safe show.  It was good to see the youth exhibitors there – they were awesome!

This is a repeat notice here: A quick mention about the Novice class which runs immediately after the Showmanship classes.  We will give ample time for a tack change for those who need it in order to compete in this Novice class…our judge will be informed of this and it will be announced at the beginning of the show.

I cannot emphasize enough the need for a few helping hands at our shows.  All it takes is a 5-minute assistance to put up barrels or a few poles on the ground to help our show directors.  You do not have to do this the entire show, just helping to set up one class would so much appreciated!  Speaking for myself at the last show, I had hurt my back and could not lift heavy objects – the only item I could lift was a hamburger flipper (otherwise, I would have been out there to help!).  PLEASE, please consider giving a helping hand!

Sharon Barnim, John Brooks and myself represented Oxford Trail Riders in the Thamesford Calithumpian (May 24 weekend) Parade and won 1st prize for Best Equine/Dress Entry – we try and advertise OTR as best we can!  More parades to come, if anyone interested to know more about them, contact  Sharon, John or myself.

If anyone is interested in joining us on a trail ride, OTRA

Cactus, Cowboys and Cattle weekend at West Lorne, July 18-10 – this is real fun! The Saturday Parade is for horses only – no motorized vehicles!!  As well, if anyone out there is interested to know about some more local rides hosted by the Ontario Trail Riders Association (OTRA), please contact me for more information.

Enjoy spring, love your ponies and see you at the show or on the trail or both!
